Anna Julia Cooper School
Anna Julia Cooper School is an independent, faith-based, full-tuition scholarship school serving students in Kindergarten through eighth grade with limited financial resources in Richmond’s East End. The mission of Anna Julia Cooper School is to love, educate, and uplift its students and graduates so that they may realize their God-given gifts. While the school only teaches through eighth grade, it provides programming supporting students as they transition into high school and pursue their own paths into adulthood.
Bloomfield
In the 1920s, the Episcopal Church recognized the need for a facility that cared for children with disabilities. Created and sponsored by the church in Virginia, Bloomfield Foundation was known by different names and served children with disabilities in different capacities. Today, Bloomfield provides grants that assist physically disabled children and young adults with the unique demands of their daily lives.
Brotherhood of St. Andrew
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is a men’s ministry with the mission to bring men and boys to Christ, inspiring, empowering, and equipping them to fulfill the Great Commission. Members are required to accept and observe the Brotherhood disciplines of prayer, study, and service. Brotherhood chapters usually meet once or twice per month in Episcopal churches.
Peter Paul Development Center
Local East End resident, parent, and activist John Coleman founded the Peter Paul Development Center in 1979 to provide a safe program for the area youth while supporting and rebuilding the community by strengthening its families. Peter Paul Development Center’s mission is to support the neighbors of the East End and educate its students, equipping them to serve as positive contributors to their families, community, and society. This is being done through educating the child, engaging the family, and empowering the community.
