Siblings of the Diocese of Virginia:
What a joy to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month together! This is a time to recognize that our Hispanic/Latin community is part of the history of the Church – it is a time to celebrate that we are, without condition or exception, part of the same Body of Christ.
From North, Central, South America and the Caribbean, Latinos have brought to the Episcopal Church something that cannot be manufactured or improvised: faith lived out loud, in the language of the heart, with the rhythm of our cultures and the hope of our grandparents. Our faith did not come “on a visit” – it took root, sowed parishes, formed leaders, and today continues to bear fruit in every corner of our Diocese.
In our Diocese we find ourselves in a new dawn, a hope and commitment to continue bringing good news and telling the four winds that we all belong to the family of God, without exception.
St. Paul reminds us clearly: “There is no longer a Jew or Greek… because all of you are one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). There is no “they” and “we” – there is only us.
This month, I invite each congregation of the Diocese of Virginia to do more than recognize our presence: to celebrate it actively. Learn a prayer in Spanish or learn a Spanish hymn. Listen to the stories of faith that many of our siblings brought across borders, oceans and challenges that few could imagine. There, in those stories, is the living Gospel.
May this be a month of joy, of shared tables, of music that unites our voices, and of a renewed commitment to build a Church where everyone – without exception – is seen, heard and loved as equals!
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Go ahead, together, be the Church!
Celebrando la Herencia Hispana: ¡Somos Iglesia, Somos Familia!

Hermanos y hermanas de la Diócesis de Virginia:
¡Qué alegría celebrar juntos el Mes de la Herencia Hispana! Este es un tiempo para reconocer que nuestra comunidad hispana/latina es parte de la historia de la Iglesia — es un tiempo para celebrar que somos, sin condición ni excepción, parte del mismo Cuerpo de Cristo.
Desde América del Norte, Centroamérica, Sudamérica y el Caribe, l@s latin@s han traído a la Iglesia Episcopal algo que no se puede fabricar ni improvisar: una fe vivida en voz alta, en el idioma del corazón, con el ritmo de nuestras culturas y la esperanza de nuestros abuelos y abuelas. Nuestra fe no llegó “de visita”; echó raíces, sembró parroquias, formó líderes, y hoy sigue dando fruto en cada rincón de nuestra diócesis.
En nuestra Diócesis nos encontramos en un nuevo amanecer, una esperanza y compromiso de continuar trayendo buenas noticias y decir a los cuatro vientos que todos pertenecemos a la familia de Dios, sin excepción.
San Pablo nos lo recuerda con claridad: “Ya no hay judío ni griego… porque todos ustedes son uno en Cristo Jesús” (Gálatas 3:28). No hay “ellos” y “nosotros”; solo hay nosotros.
Este mes, invito a cada congregación de la Diócesis de Virginia a no solo reconocer nuestra presencia, sino a celebrarla activamente. Aprende una oración en español o aprende un himno en español. Escucha las historias de fe que much@s de nuestr@s herman@s trajeron cruzando fronteras, océanos y desafíos que pocos podrían imaginar. Allí, en esas historias, está el Evangelio vivo.
Que este sea un mes de alegría, de mesas compartidas, de música que una nuestras voces, y de un compromiso renovado para construir una Iglesia donde todos y todas — sin excepción — sean vistos, escuchados y amados como iguales.
¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana! ¡Adelante, juntos, como una sola Iglesia
