Northern Neck Region Hosts Safe Church Training

Apr 18, 2024 | Stories from the Diocese

In mid-April, over 25 folks gathered at St. Stephen’s, Heathsville to participate in a Regional Safe Church Training Event using a hybrid approach of in-person and online training using the Praesidium platform.

The Rev. Pillar Parnell, Rector, St. Stephen’s, Heathsville and The Rev. Kristen Farrington, Priest-in-Charge, Cople Parish, led the participants through each Praesidium module using a laptop computer, connected to a large monitor in St. Stephen’s parish hall, and also facilitated small group discussions of the questions that were presented in each of the modules.

A lunch was provided and prepared by Ellen Kirby and Susan Tyler, members of St. Stephen’s, Heathsville.

A second Regional Safe Church Training Event will be held at St. Stephen’s, Heathsville, on Saturday, May 11, 2024, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Registration in advance is required.  Please let your priest know if you plan to attend.  If you are not sure whether you need to take the training, please refer to the attached list of modules and speak with your priest.

Registration lists from each parish are due to The Rev. Pilar Parnell pilar@ststephensheathsville.org by May 4th.

Also, as a prerequisite, please read the attached Diocesan Policy Manual regarding The Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Misconduct: Prevention and Response.
