Customaries

The Diocese of Virginia provides three customaries for use by clergy as guidelines for the liturgical life of the church in this Diocese. Please review the documents below for details.

• Customary for the Diocese of Virginia: Includes guidelines for Bishop’s visitations and liturgical expectations for services such as weddings and funerals. 
• Visitation Customary for the Diocese of Virginia: Includes only those pages of the full Customary that pertain to guidelines for Bishop’s visitations. 
• Customary for Deacons of the Diocese of Virginia: A Deacon’s Handbook designed to give guidelines for deacons, priests, and laypeople as to the role of a deacon.
• Communion Guidelines for the Diocese of Virginia: Guidelines for celebrations of the Holy Eucharist, which lifts restrictions put in place during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
