“By creating this Canon-level position,” said Bishop Stevenson, “the Diocese deepens its commitment to supporting congregations, diocesan organizations, and parishioners in their journeys of discipleship and lifelong formation. This commitment is our response to is Jesus’ commandment to ‘Go forth and make disciples of all nations.’”
Working in close collaboration with the Bishops, the Canon will articulate and proclaim a vision for discipleship of clergy and lay ministers in the Diocese. They will work in partnership with children and family ministries, Shrine Mont Camps, Parish Youth Ministry, campus ministries, and adult formation programs. The Canon will expand networks of formation professionals and strengthen opportunities for pastoral care for formation leaders. They will collaborate with the Canon for Racial Justice and Healing, Dr. J. Lee Hill, Jr., to incorporate racial healing and justice-making into all elements of formation.
