In the ever-evolving landscape of spiritual leadership, ongoing formation is crucial for those newly ordained or transitioning into new roles. To address this need, the diocesan Transitions and Vocations team developed, Connecting in Ministry, a comprehensive two-year program which aims to foster growth, connection, and well-being among clergy.
Objectives of Connecting in Ministry
Connecting in Ministry has six main goals:
- Provide a learning community for continued formation beyond seminary.
- Develop and strengthen clergy collegiality within the Diocese of Virginia.
- Equip clergy to grow more fully into ordained ministry.
- Facilitate collegial conversations that strengthen our common ministry.
- Engage in best practices and formative opportunities to ensure clergy health and wellness.
- Explore more fully the diocesan vision: Love Jesus. Embody Justice. Be Disciples.
Connecting in Ministry is designed to cultivate a vibrant community of clergy dedicated to lifelong learning and collaboration. By focusing on these key objectives, the program not only enhances individual skills and knowledge, but also fosters meaningful relationships among clergy within the Diocese of Virginia. This program ensures that participants are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of ministry in today’s dynamic world.
Areas of Study
In this two-year program, participants will confront a variety of topics relevant to daily ministry. Year one will cover topics including Racial Justice and Healing, Church Administration, Congregational Vitality, Developing Ourselves and Others as Disciples, and a Liturgy Workshop with the Bishops. Year two will address Church Governance, Development of Leaders for Ministry, Finance and Stewardship, Ministry in the Context of our Anglican Identity, Clergy Wellness, and an End of Program Celebration. In addition to the core program, participants will attend an Orientation to the Diocese led by members of the diocesan staff. Offered twice a year, this orientation provides newcomers with essential insights into the diocesan structure, resources, and mission, ensuring they are aware of the valuable diocesan resources at their disposal.
The Connecting in Ministry program offers a structure for clergy to grow and thrive in their vocations. By combining insightful sessions with opportunities for fellowship and reflection, the Diocese of Virginia is committed to nurturing leaders to live into the vision of Love Jesus. Embody Justice. Be Disciples.
