The Rev. Dr. Sam Wells to Speak at St. Stephen’s, Richmond

The Rev. Dr. Sam Wells, vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London and creator of Being With, will speak about the theology and practice of Being With as a faithful and countercultural response to this moment in the life of the church and our country. He will reflect on the importance of compassion, empathy, and connection as an answer to polarization and enmity.

A reception will follow. Admission is free. The church is handicap accessible, and free parking is available in the lot at Somerset and Grove Avenue.

This visit concludes the second annual “Week of Compassion” that focuses on the example set by Stephen, whose story in the Acts of the Apostles is one of servanthood. The Week of Compassion, which follows election season, emphasizes unity and healing through service to the community and one another.

St. Stephen’s is located at 6000 Grove Avenue in Richmond near the University of Richmond.
