During our weekend retreat\, we’ll talk straight about our experiences of cancer and our experiences of God in the wilderness. In conversations\, creative expressions\, and worship\, we’ll explore the biblical tradition of lamentation\, discovering how our grief tills the barren ground in which hope and praise can take root and grow. Prayers of healing and hope will frame our weekend and bind us close to the beating heart of God. Led by Bishop Susan Goff who is thriving after walking the wilderness of breast cancer during the pandemic\, while she was leading the Diocese of Virginia. She is author of The Desert Shall Rejoice: Psalms from the Wilderness of Breast Cancer.

DESCRIPTION:Shenandoah County will be on full display in the Ballroom of the Virginia House at Shrine Mont on Saturday during Shenandoah County Heritage Day 2025\, co-hosted annually by the Shenandoah County Historical Society (SCHS) and the Shenandoah County Library Archives. \nLibrary archivist Zach Hottel said that Heritage Day is a great opportunity for researchers\, history organizations and genealogists as well as residents to gather and learn about the county’s rich and diverse history.  “We have all types of exhibitors\,” Hottel said. “We have those who are bringing what research they have with them. We have individuals who have interest in a topic and are seeking others to discuss it and then we even have people who are just starting out\, looking to learn a little bit more about the community.” \nCome out and enjoy the fun! The retreat will include yoga\, meditation\, contemplative prayer\, fellowship\, story-sharing\, and other fun activities. All lay leaders are encouraged to attend – whether they serve as paid staff (formation professionals\, administrators\, sextons\, music ministers\, etc.) or volunteers (altar guild\, ushers\, lectors\, members of the vestry or choir\, etc.). While this retreat is focused on lay leaders\, clergy are also invited to attend.
