Added to the musical mix are the flavors of Puerto Rico with Daphne Cashion on Saxophone and Jorge Rosario on bass. To top off this eclectic mix of musicians\, world-renowned Conguero\, Alberto Limonta Perez (or “Limon”)\, provides the authentic Afrocuban flavor or “sabor afrocubano” on the Congas. \nKnown for its lush acoustics and welcoming atmosphere\, St. George’s offers a year-round concert series showcasing both local and nationally recognized artists. This performance promises an afternoon of “beautiful music in a beautiful space\,” continuing the church’s tradition of musical excellence. The concert is offered free to the community\, with donations gladly accepted at the door to benefit the work and ministry of The Absalom Jones Fund. \nSt. George’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant and inclusive spiritual community. “No matter who you are\, whom you love\, or where you’ve been\, there’s a place for you here\,” says the church’s leadership. SUMMARY:Visio Divina
DESCRIPTION:The Ministry for Racial Justice and Healing invites you to a unique encounter with art\, faith\, and justice at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) in celebration of Black History Month. Giants is a landmark exhibition featuring monumental works by Black artists from the collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys. To help us engage deeply with these works\, we will use the practice of Visio Divina (literally “divine seeing”). \nVisio Divina invites us to sit quietly with a single piece of art\, noticing how the colors\, subjects\, and stories stir our hearts. It is a way of praying with our eyes open\, asking: Where is God moving in this image? \nBy centering the brilliance\, struggle\, and joy found in the work of “Giants” like Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald\, we practice honoring the divine image in our neighbors. This is an opportunity to move beyond words and let art speak to our spirits. \nPre-Gathering: Thursday\, February 26 at 7pm Zoom \nJoin us for a brief overview of Visio Divina to help prepare ourselves for Giants. \nMeeting Point: Main Entrance\, VMFA\, by 10:45am; following our viewing we will gather at Best Cafe for small group conversation\, coffee and pastries. \nCost: $12 Adults; $10 Seniors (65 +); $8 (Youth 7-17 and College students); Child 6 and under – Free \nMore information about the exhibit: Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys at VMFA \nRegistration is limited to 20 participants \nTo register please contact Tammy Lewis

SUMMARY:Walking With the Enslaved Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the worshiping communities of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church\, you are invited to register for Walking with the Enslaved: A Pilgrimage toward Truth\, Reconciliation\, and Hope in Richmond. \nThrough this immersive\, faith-based experience\, participants engage with four centuries of Richmond’s racial history. On this journey\, we confront the ways that white people distorted Christianity to justify colonization\, slavery\, and the construct of racial identity while recognizing the role that Christian faith played for African Americans to inspire resistance\, hope\, and liberation. By uncovering the truth of this history\, we seek to inspire racial healing and equip communities to enact Jesus-centered justice in the future. \nThe pilgrimage occurs in two parts on separate\, consecutive days:  \nSaturday\, March 21st from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM:  An experiential walking tour of historical sites\, including lunch\, that begins and ends at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (815 E. Grace Street). Participants stand and walk for extended periods during the site visits\, covering two to three miles overall with a bus transporting participants between some of the sites. \nExpect varying terrain and levels of difficulty\, including dirt trails\, cobblestones\, and moderate inclines. Please inform us of any mobility concerns ahead of time. \nSunday\, March 22nd from 1 PM – 3 PM:  A facilitated group reflection at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church (2900 Hanes Ave.) from 1 PM to 3 PM. \nThe group reflection is integral to the pilgrimage experience. It is expected that anyone who signs up for the pilgrimage is committed to participating on both days. \nPilgrimage Fees & Support\nThe registration fee for the two-day pilgrimage is $35 per person. We offer scholarships so that cost is never a barrier to participation. \nThe true cost of offering this pilgrimage is closer to $100 per person. If you are able\, we warmly welcome additional donations to help sustain the program and make participation possible for others. \nParticipation is limited to 35 people. \nDetails on preparation and logistics will be provided to participants one week before the pilgrimage. \nFor more information or to inquire about scholarships\, please contact Dr. Glyn Hughes\, Program Director.
