SUMMARY:Spring Clergy Retreat 2025
DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: The Rev. Dr. Bertice Berry \nAbout The Rev. Dr. Bertice Berry \nJoy As Resistance \nClergy Retreat for The Diocese of Virginia \nIn the retreat\, sociologist\, best-selling author\, humorist and deacon\, Bertice Berry\, PhD.\, will guide us on a journey into joy as a resource of hope for the times ahead. \n“Initially\, I looked at joy through a sociological and historical lens\,” Berry says. “Then I realized that what I was seeing was not only theological\, but it was also liberating.” \nBerry\, who came to the Episcopal Church thirteen years ago\, was amazed to discover a church that her heart had yearned for. Still\, she could not rationalize the feeling of familiarity in something so unfamiliar. Using the tools of a sociologist\, Berry began to study her own experience and in so doing developed a way to identify and replicate communities of belonging\, which she does for large corporations and associations. \nIn addition to defining and illustrating Belonging for clergy\, Berry will take guide us into ourselves\, across to one another and then upward into the joy of the Lord as strength. \nYou will feel\, laugh\, learn and be inspired and she prays that you will leave rejuvenated and empowered for the times ahead. \nJoining Bertice will be her brother\, retired Master Gunnery Sgt. Keving Berry\, also known as DJ KevNicer. \nPastor Tamara Fore-Ravelo\, Minister and Medicine Woman from the Quechan Nation. \nClick Here to learn more about Pastor Tamara Fore-Ravelo. \nThe deadline for registration is Friday\, April 18. This conference is an appropriate use of discretionary funds\, and diocesan scholarship assistance is available. Information on fees and registration is available here. To increase scholarship availability\, I invite those who have the means to contribute to scholarships for others to send their gifts to the Diocese of Virginia in care of my office\, with a note on the check\, “Spring Clergy Retreat scholarship gift.” If you have questions\, contact Nerissa Crockett via e-mail at ncrockett@episcopalvirginia.org or at 800-DIOCESE. \nRegister Online \nView/Print the Agenda \nView/Print the Alternative Activities

SUMMARY:Love One Another: 3rd\, 4th\, and 5th Grade Fellowship Day
DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, the Diocese of Virginia will host two fellowship days for 3rd\, 4th\, and 5th graders to come together for a fun-filled day of formation and fellowship centered on the theme of Communion! The idea for the fellowship days came from Lauren Breeden\, Director of Children and Family Ministries at The Falls Church Episcopal. \n“Children’s spirituality is woven into their laughter\, movement\, questioning\, and wonder. Their faith is embodied\, imaginative\, and real. When we let them lead us\, they remind us what Communion truly means. These fellowship days are about recognizing that children don’t just belong in the Church—they reveal it to us. To all our young 3rd- to 5th-grade leaders: we can’t wait to learn\, play\, and worship with you. Come show us what Communion looks like through your eyes.” \n– Lauren Breeden \nThe schedule will run from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm\, concluding with a kid-centered Eucharist. Parents are invited to join their children for the first part of the day to join the fun and meet with diocesan staff and Bishops to learn more about ministries throughout the diocese. We will be hosted by St. Christopher’s School in Richmond on Saturday May 10\, and by St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School in Alexandria on Saturday May 17. \nThe $20 registration fee includes snacks and lunch. Both school campuses are completely nut-free\, so we ask that students refrain from bringing food to campus unless they make a special request with Canon Heidi Kim. For more information\, or to request scholarship assistance\, please email Canon Kim. \nPlease Register by Friday\, May 9. \nRegister Online

SUMMARY:Triangle of Hope Youth Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:The Triangle of Hope is an Anglican-led effort to form covenantal community between the dioceses of Liverpool (England)\, Kumasi (Ghana)\, and Virginia dedicated to transforming the long history\, ongoing effects and continuing presence of slavery in our world through repentance\, reconciliation and mission. Each one of our Dioceses was directly involved in the dreadful Slave Triangle. We remember and acknowledge with sorrow that human beings were captured and enslaved for financial gain with no regard for their dignity and humanity. We view this history with great pain and in penitence before God\, the God who wills in Christ to bring freedom and justice for all. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:The Gospel of Revolution: Preaching\, Politics\, and the Episcopal Church
DESCRIPTION:Social upheaval. Political polarization. Religious division. Sound familiar? That was the world of the American Revolution. We take independence for granted today\, but the very idea of an independent United States was a difficult and deadly debate in these former British colonies–and in what would become the Episcopal Church. The Rev. Kevin Laskowski will present on the history and theology of American independence\, looking at Revolutionary-era sermons from Anglican clergy and others. We’ll then worship according the prayer book then in use at the time–with the congregation voting whether or not to say the prayers for the king… Join us for The Gospel of Revolution! \nThe Rev. Kevin Laskowski serves as priest-in-charge at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Centreville\, Virginia. Kevin holds a BA in Government from George Mason University and an MDiv from Virginia Theological Seminary. In 2024\, he appeared on the game show Jeopardy!\, winning three games and competing in the Tournament of Champions. He enjoys card magic\, industrial metal\, and the fun things people put at the end of their bios. He likes to think he would have been a Patriot in the Revolution.
