Join us on September 2\, 2025 at 7:00 PM (Eastern Time) for an unforgettable evening of music. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a truly magical performance in person. \nChase is Organist and Associate Choirmaster at the Cathedral of St. Philip\, in Atlanta. He is an award-winning organist who has given solo recitals throughout North America in venues including Trinity Church\, Boston; Holy Trinity Cathedral\, Kingston\, Jamaica; St. Joseph Cathedral\, Columbus; Coral Ridge Presbyterian\, Ft. Lauderdale; Church of the Covenant\, Cleveland\, and Trinity Cathedral\, Portland. In 2025\, he was part of The Diapson’s class of “20 Under 30\,” and he was also featured as a “NextGen” artist in a 2022 edition of The American Organist. Chase is represented by Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists (concertartists.com). \nSt. Paul’s will be hosting a reception from 5:30-6:30pm\, before the concert\, in St. Paul’s Parish Hall. SUMMARY:Organ Recital & Choral Evensong
DESCRIPTION:Guest organist Dr. Christopher Reynolds (Director of Music and Organist at St. Paul’s\, Richmond) will present a 30-minute organ recital at St. Paul’s Memorial Church\, Charlottesville\, followed by Choral Evensong for the Feast of St. Michael & All Angels\, sung by the St. Paul’s Memorial Church Parish Choir (directed by Deke Polifka). \nDr. Reynolds will play works by Dubois\, Willan\, Howells\, Manz and Mendelssohn\, showcasing our recently restored 1926 E. M. Skinner pipe organ. Evensong includes the St. Paul’s Service by Herbert Howells and Edward Bairstow’s haunting setting of Let all mortal flesh keep silence\, as well as festive hymns and service music by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange and John Goss. \nChoral Evensong\, considered the crown jewel of the Anglican choral tradition\, is a form of Evening Prayer that draws from the medieval Latin offices of Vespers and Compline. This service is unique to churches of the Anglican Communion and has remained unchanged for centuries. All are invited to this beautiful service of music and prayers.
