SUMMARY:Migration with Dignity
DESCRIPTION:The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia will recognize Migration with Dignity on Sunday\, February 8\, announced Bishop E. Mark Stevenson. This is an opportunity to learn about and teach about Migration with Dignity principles which address the challenges of global migration in a new way while aligning with the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international laws and agreements. \nAt the 81st General Convention in June 2024\, the Episcopal Church adopted a resolution calling for Migration with Dignity. \nAll congregations are encouraged to celebrate Migration with Dignity and to advance the vital work of justice in our communities every day. Resources are available in the toolkit. \n“Our commitment to Migration with Dignity is a living expression of our baptismal covenant to strive for justice and peace among all people\,” Bishop Stevenson said. “As we observe Migration with Dignity Sunday on February 8 in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia\, we are reminded that to welcome the stranger is to welcome Christ himself. More than simply providing resources\, this observance is an expression of our unwavering commitment to the systemic work of advocacy\, and to championing the protections and inherent rights that reflect the divine worth of every human being.” \n“As Episcopalians\, we are called upon to affirm Migration with Dignity as a framework to guide ministry with migrants\,” the resolution reads in part\, “making urgent efforts to support arriving migrants’ immediate needs for shelter\, food\, clothing\, legal assistance\, work permits\, healthcare\, transportation…We are also urged to advocate for Migration with Dignity to local\, state\, national\, and international governing bodies\, exhorting them to enforce existing laws and policies that uphold these principles and to enact new laws and policies guaranteeing migrants welcome\, protection\, and integration into our common human journey.” \nRead the entire resolution here.

SUMMARY:Walking With the Enslaved Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the worshiping communities of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church\, you are invited to register for Walking with the Enslaved: A Pilgrimage toward Truth\, Reconciliation\, and Hope in Richmond. \nThrough this immersive\, faith-based experience\, participants engage with four centuries of Richmond’s racial history. On this journey\, we confront the ways that white people distorted Christianity to justify colonization\, slavery\, and the construct of racial identity while recognizing the role that Christian faith played for African Americans to inspire resistance\, hope\, and liberation. By uncovering the truth of this history\, we seek to inspire racial healing and equip communities to enact Jesus-centered justice in the future. \nThe pilgrimage occurs in two parts on separate\, consecutive days:  \nSaturday\, March 21st from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM:  An experiential walking tour of historical sites\, including lunch\, that begins and ends at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (815 E. Grace Street). Participants stand and walk for extended periods during the site visits\, covering two to three miles overall with a bus transporting participants between some of the sites. \nExpect varying terrain and levels of difficulty\, including dirt trails\, cobblestones\, and moderate inclines. Please inform us of any mobility concerns ahead of time. \nSunday\, March 22nd from 1 PM – 3 PM:  A facilitated group reflection at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church (2900 Hanes Ave.) from 1 PM to 3 PM. \nThe group reflection is integral to the pilgrimage experience. It is expected that anyone who signs up for the pilgrimage is committed to participating on both days. \nPilgrimage Fees & Support\nThe registration fee for the two-day pilgrimage is $35 per person. We offer scholarships so that cost is never a barrier to participation. \nThe true cost of offering this pilgrimage is closer to $100 per person. If you are able\, we warmly welcome additional donations to help sustain the program and make participation possible for others. \nParticipation is limited to 35 people. \nDetails on preparation and logistics will be provided to participants one week before the pilgrimage. \nFor more information or to inquire about scholarships\, please contact Dr. Glyn Hughes\, Program Director.
