SUMMARY:Housing Justice\, Historical Truths: Documenting Exclusion and Resilience in Northern Virginia
DESCRIPTION:Presentation by Dr. Krystyn Moon\, Professor of History and American Studies at the University of Mary Washington. Dr. Moon will provide historical context drawing on her extensive research and analysis of how racially restrictive covenants in Northern Virginia created separate and unequal communities across the region of Fairfax County\, Arlington County\, Alexandria City including the Seminary and Fort Ward neighborhoods. Dr. Moon is the author of Proximity to Power: Rethinking Race and Place in Northern Virginia published by UNC Press in Spring 2025. \nParticipants will gain insights into the consequences of these racial covenants including access to safe\, equitable housing and obstruction of generational wealth for marginalized populations today and how systemic displacement and public housing concentration targeted African-American neighborhoods whose residents responded with resilience\, agency and advocacy. \nTake the first step toward justice and repair by learning how to research if a racial covenant exists on your own property deed and how to petition for removal. During this hands-on session we will be accessing the work of Dr. Moon and her partner website\, Documenting Exclusion & Resilience. \nThis will be a hybrid event. \nTo register for Zoom or in-person attendance\, call 703.960.4808. \nLight Refreshments will be provided. \nContacts: Melissa Carter\, Davette Himes

SUMMARY:Front Porch Forum Dinners
DESCRIPTION:Our community will be offering a full course dinner before the Richmond Forum events in 2026. Sylvia May\, a parishioner\, choir member\, and chef\, along with Father Brent have planned this community building idea for utilizing our proximity to Altria Theatre. \nThe four-course dinner will be in the Parish Hall on forum nights beginning on January 17th\, 2026. \nThe cost is $100 per person\, which will include parking\, drinks\, and the meal. If you do not need parking the cost is $80.  \nSeating will be limited to 35–40 people. \nMinistry groups wanting to raise money could work a night together and this is also a great way for any older youth to gain restaurant experience. \nGuests will arrive at GHTC after 5:00 p.m. and dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. \nRichmond Forum doors open at 7:00 p.m.\, so dinner will end by 7:15 p.m. \nMore Information & Registration
