SUMMARY:Richmond Indigenous Peoples’ Day at Powhatan Hill
DESCRIPTION:A glimpse of the 2024 Richmond IPD celebration (10/14/24) \nThe 2025 Richmond IPD celebration will offer information and insight into the history and culture of Virginia’s Recognized Indian Tribes\, with special attention to the Monacan Indian Nation. Attendees can browse the offerings of Virginia Indian arts and crafts vendors and enjoy Fry Bread\, Strawberry Tea and other treats for purchase. The overall event runs from 1-7pm\, starting with a Powhatan Shinny League (PSL) explanation / exhibition from 1:30-3:30pm. Shinny is a Native American sport – a precursor to field hockey and lacrosse – played long ago by tribes across the country. PSL is leading Shinny’s resurgence in Virginia and will demonstrate how Shinny is played\, and then offer an exhibition with event attendees invited to participate. \nDownload the Flyer for More Information

Dr. Sam Wells\, vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London and creator of Being With\, will speak about the theology and practice of Being With as a faithful and countercultural response to this moment in the life of the church and our country. He will reflect on the importance of compassion\, empathy\, and connection as an answer to polarization and enmity. \nA reception will follow. Admission is free. The church is handicap accessible\, and free parking is available in the lot at Somerset and Grove Avenue. \nThis visit concludes the second annual “Week of Compassion” that focuses on the example set by Stephen\, whose story in the Acts of the Apostles is one of servanthood. DESCRIPTION:Please join us in a show of sacred solidarity during this time of trial and turmoil in our city\, commonwealth\, and country. In this brief\, simple outdoor service of prayer and praise\, we witness to the suffering of the most vulnerable and powerless among us and lift up our lament\, fear\, and hope to God’s redemptive and healing power. United as One Body\, we make known the love and justice of Jesus of Nazareth for the poor\, the oppressed\, the sick\, and the stranger. This service is hosted by St. Paul’s in collaboration with the Downtown Community Ministry.  Free parking is available in St. Paul’s garage at 111 N. 8th Street. Contact Rev.
