SUMMARY:Vox Humana Performs Free Concert at St. George’s
DESCRIPTION:Vox Humana is performing a free concert at St. George’s Episcopal Church on November 15. \nVOX HUMANA RICHMOND will perform on Sunday\, November 15\, at 3:00 p.m. for a concert entitled “Of Birds and Flight.” The concert will be in St. George’s Episcopal Church’s historic nave\, located at 905 Princess Anne Street in downtown Fredericksburg. \nThe concert program brings together a wide variety of works exploring humanity’s fascination with birds and their ability to fly. The centerpiece\, Eric Whitacre’s “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine\,” portrays the great Renaissance polymath and his obsession with inventing a birdlike machine that would let him fly. The music ranges widely in style\, from Renaissance composer Orlando Gibbons (“The Silver Swan”) to the Beatles (“Blackbird”). Also featured is Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Caroline Shaw\, whose setting of Psalm 84 includes the verse “the sparrow has found a house\, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young.” \nVox Humana is a twelve-voice choral ensemble of professional singers\, based in Richmond\, Virginia. Created in 2020\, Vox Humana\, performs a wide range of music\, both sacred and secular\, covering various periods of music history and diverse cultures. \nKnown for its lush acoustics and welcoming atmosphere\, St. George’s offers a year-round concert series showcasing both local and nationally recognized artists. This performance promises an afternoon of “beautiful music in a beautiful space\,” continuing the church’s tradition of musical excellence. Admission is free\, with donations gratefully accepted at the door to support our music and ministry at St. George’s. \nSt. George’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant and inclusive spiritual community. “No matter who you are\, whom you love\, or where you’ve been\, there’s a place for you here\,” says the church’s leadership. With a commitment to service\, justice\, and peace\, St. George’s welcomes all to experience its diverse worship and music offerings. \nFor more information about the concert or the church’s music series\, please contact (540) 373-4133 or email music@stgeorgesepiscopal.net.Visit www.stgeorgesepiscopal.net/music/concerts to learn more.
