SUMMARY:Organ Recital & Choral Evensong for the Feast of St. Michael & All Angels
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, September 27\, guest organist Albrecht von Gaudecker (former St. Paul’s organist) will present a 30-minute organ recital at St. Paul’s Memorial Church at 6 p.m.\, followed by Choral Evensong at 6:30 p.m. for the Feast of St. Michael & All Angels\, sung by the St. Paul’s Parish Choir (directed by Deke Polifka). \nAlbrecht will play the complete Symphonie No. 3 by French composer Louis Vierne\, showcasing St. Paul’s 1926 E. M. Skinner pipe organ. Evensong includes the St. Paul’s Service by Charles Villiers Stanford and Edgar Bainton’s anthem And I saw a new heaven\, as well as festive hymns and service music by Philip Radcliffe. \nChoral Evensong\, considered the crown jewel of the Anglican choral tradition\, is a form of Evening Prayer that draws from the medieval Latin offices of Vespers and Compline. This service is unique to churches of the Anglican Communion and has remained unchanged for centuries. All are invited to this service of music and prayers.
